SAXON MILL FISHERY

The Saxon Mill Fishery is a privately owned Syndicate, situated on 2 miles of the River Avon, in the rural heart of Warwick. The stretch provides over 40 pegs of fantastic mixed species action, producing bags of Roach, Chub, Dace & Grayling.

 

The venue also offers an exclusive area of 8 pegs, dedicated to fishing for the Monster Pike, Carp and Barbel that are known to grace this water all year round. This Syndicate Members area, is off the main public footpath and offers complete privacy from the outside world. Overlooked by the scenic ruins of Guys Cliffe House its presence capturing the absolute essence of the wild River Avon.

The River Avon undoubtedly offers the best Pike fishing in Warwick and the surrounding areas, The Saxon Mill is home to a huge number of hard fighting, water jumping, beautifully coloured pike; ranging from packs of jacks, eager to take a lure, to tricky warriors tipping 20lb+ in the deeper spots.

The stretch is also home to a few good sized eels, which like to hide out beneath the castle ruins and the blockwork supporting the first mill.  A real mess in the net, but a great achievement to catch, one of the rarest and certainly most mysterious creatures on our waterways.

Squadrons of river Carp make regular trips in the slack water following the first weir. Although seldom fished for by previous clubs, they have thrived on the abundance of natural food sources and have gained confidence in their movements, as the land has not been with a club for over 3 years now. A real challenge to hold them in a swim, but amazing results when they get their heads down.

Lastly are the famed Barbel, fewer in number but greater in size. Several have been spotted recently, while completing essential maintenance diving. Lying up in the shallow weeds during the sunny days and pushing into the flow when overcast, there are some serious specimens to be had. Just like the carp, they have not been fished for actively in 3 years+.
